We are proud to announce that the new Travis Industries High Output GreenSmart™ Fireplace (864 HO GS) is in production. The first time you see this fireplace you will realize this will be the best selling fireplace Travis has ever introduced.
The blazing fire, intense glow of the Ember-Fyre™ burner, the highly detailed seven piece logs with heavy steel grate and the standard accent lights highlighting the firebacks present an unforgettable impression to all who see it. Firebacks are required with the 864 HO, and you may select from 5 different surfaces: Standard Brick reversing to Herringbone Brick, Vertical Quilted reversing to Basket Weave, or our newest design, Handmade Brick with its realistic textures and subtle color variations.
As impressive as this fireplace looks, its real purpose is heating, with 46,700 Btu input and efficient design that captures and transfers the heat effectively. The HO will heat an area up to 2,500 square feet. The natural convection of the fireplace is quite impressive and the standard dual fans quietly accelerate heat transfer with 260 CFM of air movement. Additionally, one or two optional power heat duct kits may be installed to adjacent spaces. We include two snap switches with the fireplace to independently activate the convection fans and the heat duct kits.
For times when ambiance, but not heat is desired, the consumer may reduce the flame level and select the Comfort Control™ feature to achieve an impressive 73% turn down ratio with NG to 12,500 Btu or an 81% turndown to 9,000 Btu with LP. This simple adjustment allows the 864 HO GS to be used almost year-round, this is a significant benefit, as many folks still think of fireplaces as only to be used in winter. Another key benefit is the energy efficiency of HO with the GreenSmart™ basic system with the IPI pilot selection switch and the optional full GreenSmart Remote with the Smart Thermostat selection.
Installing the 864 HO is straightforward with some really desirable features to streamline the process. We include a new Install Tips sheet prominently placed in front of the install manual in the pocket on the dust cover. This sheet provides notice of some differences in this fireplace that installers need to know right away.
Here are a few of the important installation related features: the 45º flue exit allows rear venting or vertical venting with a section of 45º venting and no additional conversions. The required non-combustible facing material is pre-installed above the fireplace – just bring your drywall right down to that edge. The fireplace is zero clearance at the back and requires only 1/2” clearance along the sides in the enclosed space. No hearth is required and no non-combustibles are required under the fireplace. Standard 8” tile can be used around the fireplace to cover the seam between the M-Board and the drywall. You may install a mantel up to 12 inches deep at only 16” above the face, a huge advantage in maintaining traditional fireplace proportions.
We are able to achieve both close clearances and high heat output by clever use of design known as film cooling close clearance technology that directs a thin “film” of cooler air between the combustibles and the hot convection air, insulating the combustibles with a natural, renewable shield. This technology minimizes shielding and eliminates the need for insulation or extensive use of non-combustible materials. We also employ higher quality construction utilizing 14 gauge steel in our welded firebox and the fully welded glass frame for strength and durability.
Rear venting utilizes standard 8” venting and a standard wall thimble. No minimum rise off the fireplace is required for rear venting other than the usual 1/4” per foot on runs. We have assembled all the necessary rear vent components into a handy Minimum Rear Vent kit so your installer will have everything needed for less than you will pay for the parts separately. If the installation calls for vertical venting, add our 8” to 6” reducer to use less expensive 4 X 6-5/8” venting and gain extra clearance in tight spaces.
The 864 HO includes a wall switch and wire harness, all parts for LP conversion and an owner’s DVD to educate consumers on the features, benefits and operation.
We now include andiron brackets for the 864 HO in the fireplace hardware pack. You will find these andiron brackets easier to use, as they attach to threaded studs already in place on the grate crossbar.
The optional accessories you are already familiar with from the Hearthview TRV and Hearthview HH fit the High Output fireplace, too. I’ve already mentioned the new Handmade Brick fireback and the convenient 864 HO Minimum Rear Vent Kit.
